Yanks FOUR Out? OR Sox are FOUR UP?

Is the glass half empty or half full? My take is --- the Red Sox are 4 games up in the AL East. They still have a great pitching staff. Their hitting will remain solid. Defense is strong. Thus, I remain optimistic. Hey - we could live in Tampa Bay facrisakes!
Yanks dig themselves back from the dead to compete for the American League East. This picture and cartoon speaks volumes about the standings as they are this morning. The Yanks are 4 games back. They had another huge walk off win last night 7-6 against Baltimore.

Tim Wakfield and the Sox kept up the Yankees antics by shutting out Tampa Bay @ Fenway 3-0. We are in for another huge pennant drive the rest of the way. Would we have it any other way?

It would be boring in September being ahead. Drop the gloves boys and Sock it out!

Comcast Covers Southie vs Rockies Classic!

#7 Seed - South Boston Saints have come from behind all year long. They did just that in Game One of the Quarter Final Round vs Revere. After going down 4-0 in the first they staged a heroic come-back and plated 5 runs in the top of the 2nd. They added an insurance run on some inside baseball. Revere tried to pluck away, but it was the defence and pitching of Andrew Flink and a huge save by Jon Tenney that highlighted one of the most exciting games ever covered in Comcast History!
#2 Seed Revere Rockies shot out of the gun with a 4-0 lead. They shot themselves in the foot by making 3 key errors - all producing runs. But, you have to feel bad for the Rockies. they smashed several ground rule doubles and were robbed by 3 huge "professional" style plays.

Picture In A Picture - this is my vantage point for YBL Games on Comcast. The Baseball Head sits and shoots the breeze with my partner Al Segal on game days. We have a lot of laughs and enjoy having the opportunity to do what the "Great Announcers" do on the major networks. Talk about the game we love - Baseball!

Yawkey League - Comcast Production Team. this crew shows up at 2PM on game day and leave the park long after everyone has gone home.

Cameraman, Frank "The Tank" Morello (center) holding court. A real gentleman dedicated to the YBL and these productions. Also works on the Baseball Heads Show.

Camerman, Andy Anderson. Comcast veteran has seen more Yawkey league games than some players.

Arlen Showstack's office on wheels. here is where all the behind the scenes effort and production happens. Comcast has upgraded its coverage and technicality. High Def - here we come!

Arlen and Al D conferring on sideline guests, who will be interviewed during the contest.

Producer, Arlen Shostack at work! Arlen does his best thinking in this position.

Yawkey League Elite Eight!

#1 Seed: Somerville Alibrandis 28-5-1 led all the way in '07. Rolled off 17 straight wins. Odds on favorite to win 10th Championship. 9th in a row. You know the names. Picture has not changed here. Now it is up to the other 7 teams to dethrone the King of the Yawkey League! Any takers?
#2 Seed: Revere Rockies 26-8-0 held the fort all season in #2. Great pitching and tremendous hitting team. Lots of veterans. Shocked by Southie last night in a barn burner. Also, killed by 3 huge errors. If they play good "D". Pitching and hitting may help the Rocks go all the way in 2007. My pick to give Somerville a run for their money!

#3 Seed: Al Thomas A's 20-14 were tied with 3 other teams until the last weekend of season. Won Tarpey Conference by 2 points. Team constructed with mirrors most of year. Al Thomas has become a solid threat after a year away from playoffs. Bobby Barrett #2 in YBL batting race. Aiden Powers is a solid lefty. Down 1-0 to Blue Fish, but watch out they play possum a lot!

#4 Seed: Medford Mad Dogs 22-12, played like "puppies' in the early going. They had the best ending of the season along with Southie. Pitching and solid hitting will carry them further than most teams. Sean Gildea is a leader on the hill. Tough to beat! They do not make mistakes. can they repeat? We shall see.....

#5 Seed: Brighton Brewers 21-13-0. Had an awful end to the season. BUT - they are BAAACK. Trounced Medford 15-0 last night to open the Dance. They can be a very solid team. Defensive and hitting gaps could hurt their chances of survival. Dirt Dog attitude and tough imaged players. Marc Hordan MVP and Triple Crown winner will lead them far.

#6 Seed: East Boston Blue Fish were 19-14-1 in regular season. Solid finish. Kyle Jones is my Roger Clemens award winner for 2007, but can he do it all in a short series? He did it last night vs Al Thomas. A 3-1 win and he gets another chance in the best of 5 game series. Playing angry right now. THAT could help and hurt. Good manager will stem the tide.

#7 Seed: South Boston Saints were 19-15-0 tied with WR, McKay Club for 7th & 8th slot and got the 7th seed due to total wins against both teams. HOT! 10-3 right now to end season and open playoffs. Won an exciting comeback game one against Rockies last night. My choice for Cinderella rating in 2007. Watch out for these boys. They are strong! Tenney & Dacy nice 1-2 punch. Rob Stephenson still has it in middle age!! Jon Tenney my choice for '07 Manager and Gentleman of Year - a class act! Best move Kevin George ever made!

# 8 Seed: West Roxbury Devils were 20-15-0 in regular season. Beat McKay club in a play-in game to garner 8th seed. Long shot, but tough to beat. Any team with Phil Davies and Gregg Rockwell will be tough to beat. Will Clang is a sleeper on the bump. Huge loss - Ryan Carey OUT at SS with an injury for season.

McKay Club Be-deviled by West Roxbury!

McKay Club Beacon 2007 season is OVAH! They went down hard to the West Roxbury Devils 9-1 at Ronan Park tonight. Good pitching beats good hitting all the time. Devils pitching held the 3rd best hitting team in the YBL to only one scratch run and only 5 hits.

Phil Davies led the way for West Roxbury. Phil smashed Beacon pitching for 3 hits until he was intentionally walked in the 7th to shut him off. He scored 3 runs and had 1 RBI.

Congratulations to West Roxbury on making the Play Offs. They have a lot of work to do - now they face off in the best of 5 game series against the Top Ranked Somerville Alibrandi Club.

Bonds breaks Aaron’s markBy Associated PressWednesday, August 8, 2007 - Updated: 01:09 AM ESTSAN FRANCISCO
Barry Bonds hit No. 756 over the right center field wall last night, and hammered home the point: Like him or not, legitimate or not, he is baseball’s new home run king.
Bonds broke Hank Aaron’s storied record in the fifth inning, connecting on a 3-2 pitch from Washington’s Mike Bacsik. Three days earlier, Bonds tied the Hammer with a shot to left center in San Diego.
Conspicuous by their absence were the commissioner and Aaron himself.
Bud Selig was on hand for the tiebreaking homer, deciding to put baseball history ahead of the steroid allegations that have plagued the San Francisco Giants slugger. On this night, he sent an emissary, Major League Baseball executive vice president Jimmie Lee Solomon.

As for Aaron, he said all along he had no interest in being there whenever and wherever his 33-year-old mark was broken. He was true to his word, but he did offer a taped message of congratulations.
Absent, too, were the fans who held up asterisk signs, sure that Bonds wasn’t the real deal and that his power came from steroids.
Bonds didn’t face such suspicions at AT&T Park, in front of a loyal, home crowd that included his godfather, Hall of Famer Willie Mays. Bonds has always denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.
Yet even with Bonds at the top of the chart, fans will surely keep debating which slugger they consider the true home run champion. Some will continue to cling to Aaron while other, older rooters will always say it’s Babe Ruth.
“It’s all about history. Pretty soon, someone will come along and pass him,” Mays said before the game.
A seven-time NL MVP, the 43-year-old Bonds hit his 22nd home run of the year.

West Roxbury v McKay Club - PLAY IN GAME - TONIGHT!

WEST ROXBURY DEVILS VS MCKAY CLUB BEACONS AT RONAN PARK TONIGHT - 7:30!
MCKAY CLUB BEACONS were 19-15 in the regular season and were forced to play a Play In Game in order to garner the 8th seed in the 2007 Yawkey Baseball League Championship Tournament. Their opponent is West Roxbury Devils who have the same record.

Beacons and Devils split their season series and seem very evenly matched. The only plus for McKay club is they will host the Play In game at Ronan Park Tuesday - August 7th at 7:30PM.

There are 9 teams in the YBL who envy these two clubs right now. several had their chance, but were eliminated in the stretch drive.

South Boston with their win over WR last night caught a break. they had a better aggregate record against WR & Beacons, thus were granted the 7th seed. Al Thomas did them one better and won their game against Medford 9-1. That win propelled the A's to the top of the Tarpey Conference and a #3 seed.

Sean Sullivan will pitch for McKay Club and it seems that Gregg Rockwell will be on the bump for Devils. Lots more action and fun ahead in the YBL. The Championship Tournament will begin on Wednesday - August 8th at various venues.
