YBLIntroducing the Yawkey League!
This is the first in a series of presentations introducing the reader to local top quality amateur baseball league's. Bostons' top dog is the Tom Yawkey League. The league AKA - The Boston Junior Park league cam into its own during the 1990's. The 18 team - wood bat program for men ages 18 and over operates in neighborhood in Boston proper and around the metro Boston Area.
A unique league that welcomes men of all ethnic backgrounds and economic variance. Most players gravitate to the YBL from colleges and universities around the nation. All have at least varsity High School backgrounds.
Two of our players are with Major League Teams. Rich Hill (Al Thomas Club of Milton) is the number one starter for the Chicago Cubs. Manny Delcarmen (South End Astros) is now in Triple AAA, but will soon join the Red Sox as they press for the World Series.
YBL games begin May 12th. A complete schedule of games and locations -- with directions to fields is located at the link above. Player Stats are located in the .400 hitter section of the page. You can follow you team every day on the webpage: www.yawkeybaseball.com
This Blog will have regular updates - player profiles and other good stuff about the Yawkey Baseball League of Boston.
YBL All Stars will play their summer classic at the home of the North Shore Spirit on July 15. Details are on the way. The YBL Stars will also play the United States Military All Stars on June 8. Location to be determined.
Somerville Alibrandi Highlanders are defending their 9th YBL Championship in 2007. The other 17 teams in the league will have something to say before Somerville makes it an even 10!
